Speaking Out & Night

"We must always take sides. Neutrality helps the oppressor, never the victim," This quote, by Elie Wiesel, talks about choosing sides in order to reveal what is really happening. This is connected to religious in the way that neutrality hasn't really stopped the persecution of Christians in the Middle East. People need to take action in order to get something done for certain topic, in this case saving Christians from persecution. One reason people should take action is that “Up to two-thirds of Christians have fled Iraq in the past ten years to escape massacres, church burnings and constant death threats.” (Powers pg 1). Things like this will continue to occur if people keep neutral and not do anything about the Christian persecution. The sad part is that the Christians being persecuted rely on other countries for help because that can’t speak up for themselves or else they risk being killed. Even though “Christians are harassed in 130 countries, more than any of the world's other religions.” people still allow it to be “‘one of the most under covered stories in international news’,” (Powers pg 1). People need to go out and inform the public of the Christian persecution that has been in the shadows for so many years. The only way to stop something from continuing is to advocate it and, most importantly, do something about the problem.
